The Marlowe Theatre, situated in the heart of Canterbury is set to become one of the country’s landmark theatres since it opened in October. With a seating capacity of up to 1200, audiences can enjoy state-of-the-art facilities housed in a stunning contemporary riverside building. This larger theatre promises to bring a programme of bigger and better shows including the largest musicals, best plays, international quality opera and well known pantomimes; perfect for the Christmas family theatre trips. In an exciting new departure, the theatre is also the home of a second auditorium, The Marlowe Studio, providing a place for many of Kent’s creative artists and performers to devise and premiere their new work.
Get outside with our winter breaks
If the outdoors is where your heart is, why not put on your hat and scarf and take the family for a fresh winter breaks walk?
Head over to Camber Sands mountainous sand dunes where the frosty marram grass sparkles in the low winter sunlight. Enjoy the stunning pink sunsets over the huge expanse of beach as the sun goes down over medieval Rye. Or, walk around nearby Rye Nature reserve and look out for Twite, Lapland, Snow Buntings as well as our numerous finches. Birds of prey are attracted by these smaller birds so you might see Merlin, Hen Harrier, Short-eared Owls and Peregrine, as well as the more usual Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Try something new and enjoy a crisp winter walk through Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest, the world’s finest conifer collection.
Christmas shopping on our winter breaks
If retail therapy is your passion, why not stock up for Christmas and explore the Dickens Christmas Market at Rochester Cathedral. Inhale the sweet scent of roasted chestnuts and Glühwein amongst an array of wonderful German ‘style’ Christmas market huts selling a range of Christmas gifts. Or head down to Biddenden Vineyards to taste their new spiced mulling cider; Monk’s Delight. Spiced with a blend of cinnamon and honey, and served warm, this makes the perfect hot luxury on a cold winter’s evening.
Bluewater’s new state-of-the-art Events Venue, perfect for food, fashion, events and exhibitions. Just in time for Christmas, why not browse The Festive Food Fair taking place on 8 – 11 December, where food will be beautifully presented at its most sumptuous best.
