Boar and More – A Celebration of Game in Rye
Wild Boar Week is returning to Rye from 25th October to 2nd November 2014. With lots of events being hosted throughout Rye, East Sussex, you are sure to be happy as a pig (or boar) in clover!
Choose between oak beamed pubs with cosy, open fire places, or a variety of restaurants, all showcasing local produce. You can be sure that many culinary delights will be served – from Rye Bay Plaice to Wild Boar. This years event is also showcasing the very best of Game, to be enjoyed if you would like to try something a little different!
It is Game On at The Ship Inn
Beside The Sea favourite, The Ship Inn is getting it’s ‘Game On’ this year. With such culinary delights as Duck Heart Skewers, Crispy Pigs Ears and Whole Roast Quail gracing the menu, alongside gorgeous Wild Boar in the Hole, you are sure to find something to tantilise your taste buds!
Why not wash down your Pig or Game dish with one of the 10 local Ciders and Perry’s that will also be being served at The Ship Inn during Wild Boar week, as they are running their popular micro cider festival during Wild Boar week too!
Porco, Porco! Why not be Italian about Boar!
We’re loving the sound of the menu’s that Rye’s splendid Italian restaurants are cooking up for Wild Boar week. The Tuscan Kitchen are serving up amazing sounding dishes such as; A carpaccio of Wild Boar with Rocket and Parmesan, Ravioli filled with ricotta & spinach served with a wild boar ragú and Medallions of wild boar glazed with Tuscan honey, served with mushroom shaped potatoes & caramelised carrots. As well as a selection of fabulous Game dishes alongside their usual spectacular Italian dishes.
Family favourite, Simply Italian are going to be slow-cooking marinated Wild Boar, with Tomatoes and lots of Passion and serving it up with Tagliatelle Pasta! De-lic-ious!
Unsure if you like Game?
If you are not sure what you like, but you’d really like to get involved in Wild Boar week, why not head to Webbe’s at the Fish Cafe this Wild Boar week. Here they’ll be serving up a Game Tasting menu at just £35 pp – try dishes such as Smoked Game Bird Broth, Cured Haunch of Venison and Rare Mallard with Roast Pineapple, as well as Boar Sausages. All enjoyed in the lovely setting of the Webbe’s Restaurant in Rye.
Wild Boar Week Hog Hunt
With Wild Boar week coinciding with Half Term, over 100 shops in Rye will celebrate Wild Boar Week by displaying a ‘card-Boar-d’ wild boar in their window. Each boar is named. If you can find twenty wild boars and fill in the shop name and the boar’s name on a form – which will be available from the Rye Tourist Information Centre in Lion Street – and return the completed forms to the Rye Tourist Information Centre, in Lion Street, you can do so in exchange for a chocolate bar. That certainly isn’t boar-ing!
