Rye Jazz & Blues Festival 2016
Beside The Sea Holidays are once again proud to be one of the sponsors of this major annual event in the delightful ancient medieval Cinque Port Town of Rye which is taking place from 25th to 29th August.
The headline artists for the Rye Jazz & Blues Festival 2016 include recording artist Mica Paris, dubbed the UK’s Queen of Soul, plus Jazz Singers Liane Carroll and Joe Stilgoe.
There are plenty more marvellous events and venues to make up for this – including a Jazz Supper, on Thursday 25th, at what is probably Rye’s most famous hostelry the Mermaid Inn.

These include Mica Paris, who performs at St Mary’s Church on Saturday evening 27th August and Lianne Carroll and Joe Stilgoe also at St Mary’s on Bank Holiday Monday the 29th August.
There is a host of free acts in the fringe programme around the streets of Rye including such well known and landmark sites as the Buttermarket and the Landsgate.
Other popular venues include the Kino Cinema that hosts the Brillos – with big sounds from tiny instruments on Saturday 27th from 1.00pm and the Rod Pooley Funky Organ Trio the following day at 3.00pm.
Rye Cricket Club host a Cool Alfresco Summerhouse Jazz event on the afternoon of Sunday 28th August at the same time you have the choice of Jazz and Champagne on the Terrace at Rye Lodge.
A selection of Rye’s splendid pubs – who play such a vital part in the towns annual cultural events such as the Wild Boar Festival are also to the free at this year’s Jazz event including The Standard Inn that hosts Phil Law & Friends for Jazz, Blues and Soulful Rock & Roll on Thursday 25th and King Size Slim – the best Roots and Acoustic Blues – on Sunday 28th at 4.00pm.
The Queens Head has the Rye Bay Crew – presumably Jazz Musicians rather than fishermen – on Saturday 27th The Old Borough Arms have Paul Richards Jazz Guitar Duo on Monday 29th at 3.30 pm and The Ship Inn bring you Turpin Hubbard Blues Duo also on Monday 29th at 4.00pm.
Italian food lovers are in for a treat at Simply Italian from 3.00pm, also on Sunday 28th, when Jazz Funk Giants are “Bringing The Streets Alive”.
Retail outlets are not missing out either with Andy Williams Cool Solo Jazz Guitar on Friday 26th at the stylish La Maison Clothes.
