With the temperatures soaring, there is no better place to be than beside the sea, especially as Camber is now hotter than Australia and South Africa!

Nothing is more relaxing than lazing amongst the powder-soft sand dunes, with the glorious cloudless sky above and the bright blue sea lapping at the shore.

May is a great time to be here in 1066 Country, the weather is stunning, the countryside is in full bloom and the air is revitalising. When the heat of the beach gets too much, take shelter at the nearby magical town of Rye. It’s cobbled streets packed full of history and a favourite of the Royal family and Hollywoods A list stars. Don’t be surprised whilst sitting outside one of the famous coaching inn’s to see a member of the fab 4 strolling past. Paul McCartney has made a nearby village his home.

For those of you that love a bit of history, then why not visit Rye’s sister and one of Kipling’s ‘ports of stranded pride’ Winchelsea. Today Winchelsea sits quietly on its hill more than a mile away from the sea, where ships once docked, sheep now graze.

700 years ago this was one of England’s leading ports, the equivalent to Portsmouth today. Its wealth was based on its wine trade, shipbuilding, privateering and piracy. Winchelsea along with Rye stood on the frontline against the French invasion and all around, you will see the huge stone gateways and thick walls built to keep the enemies of England at bay.

Like the tide, time has moved on and the French are more than welcome to visit!
