Whether you’re a twitcher or just love wildlife, our birdwatching holidays let you get up close with our feathered friends who inhabit this wonderful corner of England with the added luxury of a self-catering holiday home. Travel with like-minded friends for some serious spotting, or combine it with other activities in the area that the whole family will enjoy.
Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is the perfect place to indulge in a spot of twitching, with it’s mosaic of habitats beside the sea with shingle, saltmarsh, sand dunes, rivers, pits, grazing marsh, reedbeds and farmland.
Head away from the coast and the scenery changes to farm and woodland, perfect for watching barn owls gliding over the fields in search of prey. The range of habitats makes 1066 Country one of the best places for bird watching holidays here in the UK.
Watch the Autumn migration from one of the many hides dotted about Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, or study the variety of winter visitors from wildfowl, waders, finches and raptors.
Rye Harbour is most famous for its birdlife and in particular its breeding colonies of the rare Little Tern, the Common Tern and, in some years, the Sandwich Tern.
More than 279 species of birds have been recorded at the Reserve, of which over 70 have nested.
As well as the interest in the breeding birds, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is also a great place to observe bird migration, while in winter large numbers of wildfowl and waders gather to take full advantage of the relatively undisturbed Reserve area.
Our Birdwatching holidays are perfect for the birder in you!
With such a great variety of habitats, it is not surprising that there is such a wealth of wildlife on our bird watching holidays.
