Christmas Beside The Sea
There’s no better feeling than having a wonderful holiday cottage to look forward to for Christmas beside the sea. From where you’ll go to what you’ll do, Christmas cottages allow you to gather together and plan your Christmas and New Year just the way you like it.
As the nights start to draw in, the air turns crisp and fresh, and maybe even the first snow starts to fall, thoughts turn to Christmas. A special time to be with family and friends. After last year’s quieter affair, this December it seems only right to throw out all the stops and our Christmas cottages shall be as welcoming as always.
But picturesque Camber Sands and Rye will persist in their delivery of a winter wonderland to remember. The festive magic will be less fanfare and festivals this year, but the area will still be bedecked with festive lights, decorations will demand that we cheer in the season one way or another.
Christmas in Rye
There would ordinarily be a Christmas Festival procession in Rye including pipers, drummers, bands, performing artists and many more who escort Santa and his horse-drawn carriage into town, followed by the lighting of the tree and a spectacular fireworks display.
In the lead up to the seasonal period the High Street in Rye is bustling with Christmas shoppers – albeit socially distanced and less frantic this year. And where better to do your Christmas shopping and get into the Christmas spirit? You can soak up the festive atmosphere as you wander down cobbled side streets with charming gift shops and locally produced art and food products. You can be sure to find the perfect gift for any family member or friend. Most of the shops are open for later hours at this time so you can do your shopping at your leisure, taking in the Christmas decorations that deck the streets. Yes, enjoy Christmas shopping in Rye and experience old fashioned service, just the way it should be.
Need to warm up from the chill of winter? why not gather around a roaring fire in one of Rye’s array of historic taverns or cosy inns and enjoy local seasonal delicacies.
Christmas in Camber
The beach at Camber Sands makes for a bracing and refreshing winter walk. And if you are lucky enough to be here when it snows you can be one of the few to get to build a snowman on the beach!
Those who enjoy a frosty dip can take a leap into the wintry waves and doubtless return full of energy and enthusiasm. Forgive the rest of us for taking your word for it! At least you won’t be too far from your Christmas cottage for warming back up again.
As the coast beckons settle into your stride along the coast path. Arrive in Rye, pootle on towards Bexhill and Hastings, or head inland to explore Romney Marsh. Walking holidays from your door and back are plentiful here.
With so much to do at any time of year, Camber Sands and Rye in 1066 Country are the perfect get away for your winter or Christmas break.
Christmas cottages
While Christmas is a time for celebration, it is also an important time to relax and reset. The joy of a stay in one of our Christmas cottages is the neutral territory is provides for mixing up household roles – usually! Let someone else rustle up meals or even better book in to enjoy Christmas dinner in one of our local eateries.
Whether you’re dining in or out, wandering around and about, or building snow and sand castles on the shoreline, you’ll always have the warmth and comfort of our Christmas holiday cottages to return to – many of which have a fireplace to hunker around too.
If homemade food is on the agenda you can also purchase your Christmas food shopping from the delis and local producers nearby. Organic meats, breads and cheeses as well as some of the locally produced wine and fizz are sure to go down very well as part of your seasonal spread.
