We love soaking up sun as much as any guests do. But if all that peace and quiet on the shoreline leaves you craving a bit more excitement, we know just the thing.
Kitesurfing in Camber Sands is the latest and greatest adrenaline-filled pursuit amongst our guests. When you stay with Besides the Sea, you’re perfectly positioned to give it a try.
Our stretch of the shore is a prime destination for this rip-roaring watersport, which lets you channel the wind to get some serious air and speed. With The Kitesurf Centre just minutes from many of our Camber Sands holiday cottages, you can easily spend a day (or three!) cruising the tides and be back home in time for tea.

What exactly is kitesurfing?
The quick answer: part wakeboarding, part windsurfing, part gymnastics—and a whole lot of fun. Here’s how it works: surfers stand on a kiteboard—similar to a surfboard—and use a parachute-like kite to catch enough wind to propel them across the waters.
The result is a whole body workout that’s a hundred times more fun than any day at the gym. It’s any adventure seeker’s preferred way to enjoy the waters of Camber Sands.
Kitesurfing in Camber Sands
A popular destination for kitesurfing enthusiasts, Camber Sands offers the ideal conditions for this watersport. Since catching wind—rather than waves—is the name of the game, Camber’s smooth, flat waters grant kitesurfers total freedom.
Kitesurfing Camber Sands is what you make it. Newbies might prefer to take it easy and cruise the smooth surf, while those with a little more experience can take advantage of the waters to try out jumps or set a new speed record.
Where can I give it a go?
Minutes from many of our cottages, The Kitesurf Centre is the must-visit destination for all things kitesurfing in Camber Sands. Experienced kitesurfers can shop or hire equipment, including wetsuits, boards, kites, and more.
Hitting the water for the first time? Starting at £99, six-hour kitesurfing lessons take place almost daily from March to November at the centre. You’ll start out with a brief classroom instruction on the basics before learning how to fly the kite on the beach.
After that, your instructor will show you how to set up your equipment. Then, you’ll don your wetsuit and get into the water—first waist-deep to try out your kite, and then for some “body dragging,” in which you catch wind and let the kite sail you around in all different directions.
To advance to full-on kiteboarding, try a two- or three-day package, where you’ll catch some continuous runs down the flat Camber Sands waters, or even learn slide turnings and perfect your stance and technique.
What if the water isn’t for me?
Landlubber? You can still get the thrill of kitesurfing in Camber Sands without setting foot in the water. The Kitesurfing Centre also offers lessons in kite landboarding, a sport in which you catch wind to cruise across the sands on an off road board.
Combine a kite landboarding lesson with a buggy hire for a unique day out on the beach. The centre’s two-seat buggies are also solid options for families with young kids—mom or dad can steer while a little one joins in for the ride.
